Where Every Great Dancer Begins
From your child's very first plié to RAD grade examinations — our ballet programme builds the technical foundation that every dance style stands on.
Your Feet Are the Instrument
Tap dancing is a live musical event — the dancer and the musician are the same person. Every step is a note. Every performance is unrepeatable.
Dance That Actually Says Something
Modern dance transformed movement into art. We teach it with the bold, purposeful spirit of the pioneers who made it one of the world's most powerful art forms.
Dance That Lives in the Streets, Trained for the Stage
Real hip hop. Real technique. Breaking, popping, locking, and freestyle — taught with genuine respect for the culture that created them.
Where Technique Meets Pure Expression
Contemporary dance blends precision with emotion — giving dancers the freedom to tell stories that only the body can tell. One of South Africa's most sought-after styles.
More than a studio.
A place where dancers are made.
Leigh-Anne Gorrie founded Hooked On Dance in 2008 with one unwavering belief: that every student who walks through the door deserves to be seen, challenged, and celebrated — not just the naturally gifted ones. Every single one.
Seventeen years and hundreds of students later, that belief hasn't changed. What has is the depth of experience behind it — RAD-certified teaching, five disciplines, small class sizes, and a studio culture where technical excellence and genuine joy have always existed side by side.
Unlike the big-name studios that grow and gradually lose their soul, Hooked On Dance is still personally led by the person who started it. That difference shows up in every single class.

Ballet
The foundation of every dance style. Our RAD-certified syllabus takes students from their first plié through to graded examinations using the world's most respected framework.
Explore ClassesTap
Part dance, part live percussion. Rooted in West African and Irish traditions and shaped by jazz, tap is a musical event where the dancer's body is the entire band.
Explore ClassesModern
Dance that says something. Born from rebellion against classical rigidity, modern uses breath, gravity, and emotional truth to tell stories that transcend words entirely.
Explore ClassesHip Hop
A living culture, not just a style. We teach breaking, popping, locking, and freestyle with genuine respect for the Bronx roots that gave hip hop to the world.

RAD Certified Excellence
Our ballet programme follows the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus — the world's most respected framework. Your child's progress is measured against a truly global standard.
AIDT Certified Teaching
Our teachers are AIDT certified — a professional standard that ensures every class at Hooked On Dance is structured, safe, and delivered by qualified instructors you can trust with your child.
Small Classes, Real Attention
We deliberately limit class sizes so every student receives genuine individual feedback every lesson — not just the ones at the front. Your child is never just a number.
Founder-Led Since 2008
Leigh-Anne Gorrie has led HOD personally since founding it. Unlike studios that grow and gradually lose their heart, every class still reflects her original vision and values.
All Ages, All Levels
From tiny tots at age 3 to adults rediscovering movement — every student has a genuine place here and a clear, supported path to grow along.
Straight from the people who matter most
"My daughter started ballet at HOD at age four. She's now thirteen and preparing for her RAD Grade 5 exam. What I've watched happen over those nine years goes far beyond learning to dance. She has become confident, disciplined, and genuinely proud of herself. That's Leigh-Anne's doing."
"I've trained at two other studios in Joburg. The difference here is night and day. They actually teach you the history and the culture — not just steps from the latest music video. I finally feel like a real dancer, not someone who can just copy choreography."
"I joined the adult contemporary class at 34 — convinced I was too old and too stiff. Six months later I performed in the end-of-year showcase. I cried on stage. Not from nerves — from the realisation that I had actually done something I never thought I could. HOD does that to you."
